Synopsis

Casting and seeking crew for "The Single(s)", a rom-dramedy about a group of singles in their late 20's, reacclimating to social life after the pandemic, figuring out their purpose, relationships, dating, and careers. It's a show like "Master of None" and a modern day version of "Friends."

Seeking talent from Los Angeles, CA

Roles paying up to $800.00

Role: Julian (Mexican-American)

A lonely misanthrope scared of failure who has gone into hiding from the world. Think Joel from "Eternal Sunshine" meets Chidi from "The Good Place".

With the help of his new friends, Julian pursues a romantic interest in his co-worker Maddie. Unfortunately, this relationship proves unhealthy and consumes his life. Season one concludes on a cliffhanger, with Julian having been separated from his core friend group. The next season sees Julian end his relationship and reconnect with his friends.

Having been raised by his abuelita and attended an all-boys Catholic school, high standards and expectations have been drilled into Julian's mind from a young age. And the pressure to live up to them is so great that he can't even bring himself to try. He once pretended to have appendicitis to avoid trying out for his high-school football team. And he was so badly stressed out about it he actually gave himself an ulcer.

Above all else, socializing is where Julian feels these pressures the most, choosing night after night to bury himself in work and books. Even through college, his social anxiety kept him sitting quietly in the back of lecture halls and alone in his dorm.

By complete luck he did make one friend in Karmen after being paired up in sophomore chemistry. They made fast friends and even though they both caught romantic feelings for the other, neither said the courage to say anything.

Karmen had some success in dragging Julian out of his shell, even introducing him to his first and only ever girlfriend. But after a terrible breakup, Julian resorted back to his isolationist policy and shut himself off even more.

Julian moved to LA right after graduation and so far has only one friend, Tim. But even Tim is only semi-successful in lugging Julian out. And with his self-proclaimed ladies'-man attitude, Tim is definitely not the best guide for Julian, especially when it comes to advice about speaking with women. There is not a date he has approached or left with any substantial confidence.

But, after reconnecting with Karmen during his ill-fated blind date, everything changes. Julian starts learning to stop accepting that bad things just happen to him, and decides to start taking a more assertive role in his own life.

Over the course of the first season, Julian finally finds a place of comfort among a new group of people who all feel isolated in their struggles to re-establish themselves and find their way of life in post-pandemic Los Angeles. Together, the characters learn to navigate the busy Los Angeles culture.
